Still largely unknown in the wetobias.erny world, the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub in West Equatorial Africa has long been considered a sacred medicine with a broad spectrum of activity: it serves as a remedy, initiator, and catalyst for spiritual development allows communication with the ancestors and the spiritual dimensions.
In the 1960s, the American psychonaut Howard Lotsof accidentally discovered the addiction-inhibiting effect of Ibogaine, the main alkaloid of the root cortex. The pharmacological action profile of Ibogain causes a kind of “reboot” in the brain and thus helps to dissolve addictive structures. In addition to relief from addiction, guided near-death experiences often provoke positive lifestyle changes and offer alternative perspectives for improving quality of life. New applications are constantly being discovered. Meanwhile, Iboga is used in depression, Parkinson’s, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and various anxiety disorders.
The book provides an overview of the history of iboga in Africa and the western world as well as the current pharmacological, botanical and chemical state of knowledge.
